Stefano Di Stasio

Stefano Di Stasio was born in Naples in 1948, and moved to Rome with his family in 1950. After briefly attending the Academy of Fine Arts, he continued his studies as a self-taught artist. In 1977-78 he and some friends opened a self-managed space in Rome called La Stanza. Here he experiments with extra-pictorial installation art, inventing spaces animated by a variety of objects, materials, artifact furniture, lights, fragments of paint and wall drawings. Since the 1980s he has participated in the Venice Biennale: in 1982 in Aperto ’82; in 1984 in Arte Allo Specchio, the event’s central exhibition; in 1995 in the central pavilion. Among the museums in which he has exhibited are the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, the Museum of Modern Art in Ostend, Belgium, GNAM in Rome, the Fondazione Stelline in Milan, and MART in Rovereto. He has lived and worked between Rome and Spoleto since 2000.
