Gianni Piacentino

Gianni Piacentino, born in Coazze (Turin) in 1945, is an Italian artist whose career has been marked by a continuous exploration of form, technology and speed. Studied philosophy at the University of Turin in the early 1960s. In 1966 he held his first solo exhibition at the Gianenzo Sperone Gallery in Turin. In 1966 he also participated in his first group exhibition called “Arte Abitabile,” together with other artists such as Gilardi, Pistoletto, in Turin. In 1969 he began decorating racing motorcycles, paving the way for his “Vehicles” and “Wings” series. In 1970 his works were purchased by the Power Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Sydney. He participated in the prestigious “documenta 6” in Kassel in 1977, through which he was internationally recognized. In 2021 his works took a new direction with painting on satin-finished steel and monochromatic combinations on sheet metal and steel grid. Today, Gianni Piacentino lives and works in Turin.
