Piero Gilardi

Piero Gilardi was born on February 5, 1942, in Turin, Italy. In 1963, at the age of 21, he held his first solo exhibition entitled “Machines for the Future. Two years later, in 1965, he introduced his first polyurethane foam works, known as “Carpet-nature,” which were characterized by extraordinary realism, reproducing fragments of natural environments and attracting attention not only in Italy but also in cities such as Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Hamburg, Amsterdam and New York. The Carpets-Nature were exhibited alongside some of the most important works of American Pop Art. In the 1990s, Piero Gilardi developed a series of interactive multimedia installations and collaborated with international artists. He co-founded the international association Ars Technica together with Claude Faure and Piotr Kowalski. Piero Gilardi passed away on January 23, 2023.
